Perfume Review- Midnight In Paris

Spring is here and as I find the intense, sweet perfumes I favour really do not work well in the heat.. it's my last chance to wear something sweet before summer arrives! I picked up two sweet scents in the last 2 weeks and I have a little review on each of them for you.
Nina Ricci 'Fantasy'
A sweeter more fruity edition of the original scent. This is a little childish and sugary at first but once it settles on skin.. it is absolutely lovely! It doesn't last too long but the dry down is very nice. I really smell the cherry blossom and pear notes in this.It seems to be one of those scents that smells differently to men and women (my male friends think I smell fruity whereas my female friends think I'm smelling sweet) but both have been equally complimentary. Not something that would ever become my signature scent or that I would repurchase but I am enjoying using it for occasional, daytime wear.

Van Cleef & Arpels 'Midnight In Paris'
This is actually a men's fragrance but I didn't realise that when I first spritzed it on myself. I really dislike the Van Cleef Feerie perfume for women (although I do think the bottle is to die for) so I was so surprised to like this!
To me the most noticeable notes are vanilla and leather and as it dries down the leather calms down into something more woody. The more I sniff it the more I recognize why it is a men's scent. It's sweet but clearly masculine, although I do feel a woman could pull it off! One thing worth mentioning is the exceptional lasting power. I tend to wear it more in the evening time and when I wake-up the next morning it's still lingering softly. It reminds me of the Juliette Had A Gun 'Citizen Queen' scent only I prefer this. I would definitely repurchase in the future and buy as a gift for a man!

Hope you enjoyed this post! What are you currently wearing? Do you switch perfumes with the seasons?

  1. I kind of just go with whatever mood I'm in, but lately I've been wearing Guerlain Shalimar a lot, especially at nighttime. For spring and summer I tend to like Stella or Hanae Mori

  3. The Nina Ricci one sounds really nice, though I'm on a perfume ban! I'm currently wearing Miss Cherie - love it! Oh and I also love Chanel CEF, my fav for summer! :) x

  4. Although I wouldn't think we have the same perfume taste (I do admire your choice of strong perfume, but wouldn't be able to pull it off myself) - your the first beauty blogger who said what I've always been thinking - sweet scents and summer don't match. Everybody keeps saying - "oh, it's so sweet-perfect for the summer" - and I keep wondering how exactly that is =)

    1. Agree! In summer, with all the oils our skin produces it just isn't a good smell combination!!

  5. Both really pretty bottles! I'll have to try Midnight In Paris. I liked Citizen Queen, but it wasn't quite tame enough for me, this sounds more wearable.

I'm currently wearing Dior Miss Cherie. I try to pick a bright eau de toilette for each spring/summer, then I wear sandalwood and patchouli oils in the winter months.

    1. Im so impressed by the Midnight In Paris.. Citizen Queen made me feel a bit sick (i think because I get car sick I associate leather with cars?) so I much prefer this scent!

  6. Oh my husband wears Midnight In Paris, it's my absolute favourite scent on him, sooo beautiful.
Personally I have a few perfumes on the go and I'll decide on what I'm wearing on the day, depending on outfit, mood, weather.

  7. funny you should say that about the Nina Ricci one - I really didn't like it when I sprayed it in the store, but my friend was wearing it recently and it smelt lovely.

  8. Both of those bottles are so pretty!

Currently I'm still in love with Shalimar and Mitsouko, both by guerlain. I am having a flirtation with Prada Candy but I don't think it will last long! Once the heat turns up in Abu Dhabi anything sweet becomes a victim of the heat!

  9. Right now I can't decide whether I love sweet scents or something that smells slightly more manly or 'darker', so I'm mixing my Tom Ford Black Orchid with Viktor + Rolf Flowerbomb... they smell AMAZING together and really balance each other out :)

Usually I tend to wear Idole d'Armani or Thierry Mugler's Alien in the winter and then Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche in the summer :)

    2. Yes! I think there is just something quite timeless about Chanel's fragrances, you can really appreciate all of them even if they're not the type of scent you usually go for, if that makes sense! I absolutely love the Eau Tendre version too, it smells a lot warmer and muskier than the other two. It's gorgeous!

  10. Oh I adore perfume and loved hearing about your different picks for the seasons. The majority of scents I like are powerful, heavy, musky, sexy and sometimes fruity scents- Alien by Tierry Mugler, Gucci by Gucci, Couture Couture by Juicy, Elle by YSL, Amore Amore by Cacharel, etc. Regardless of the season, I always love these scents and wear them but I do have some fresh scents I wear during the day in the summer... then always revert to these for the evening! xxx

  11. Unfortunately, my main criteria for picking perfumes is "does not give me headaches", which means that finding one that works takes time, and I am very faithful to them.
I mostly wear a mix of Lutens 5 o'clock au gingembre and Un Bois Vanille and according to my mood I'll put in more of one or the other, and sometimes wear only just one of them, but really I love the mix :)
Also liking Marc Jacob's Daisy for Summer, and Kenzo Amour or EL Sensuous Noir for deep Winter.

    1. I just smelt the new summer Marc Daisy.. omg what a stunning scent. I think it may be my next one but I promised myself no more till I finish a bottle. Luckily I use a lot of perfume so that may be quite soon...

  12. Have to try Nina Ricci! I'm obsessed with Prada Candy atm!

  13. I love the design of both bottles. I would probably go for the Nina Ricci one as I tend to gravitate towards those type of scents, as long as they aren't cloying. I do however really love the combination of vanilla and leather.

  14. Awhhhh Dior Addict, My most loved perfume and the only one to ever give me a blinding migraine. Sometimes its worth it though.... Also love the Burberry Brit Red edition. Perfect winter fragrance -spicy with a hint of chocolate xxx

  15. I'm big fan of Nina Ricci perfumes, and when I think on them, it means happiness for me! They are so sweet and cute and they can really make my day happier :)
Van Cleef perfumes haven't tried yet.

Some of my favourite perfumes: Guess Seductive and Seductive I'm yours, Versace Crystal Noir, DG Light blue, Gucci Flora, Escada Especially Escada, Lolita Lempicka Si Lolita, etc :)

  16. I love that Van Cleef bottle! Sometimes I just like the look of fragrances on my dresser more than I actually use them. Is that bad? =)

  17. That Van Cleef bottle is to die for, the night sky design is so well done!!!
And I'm all for wearing men's perfumes, I often spritz Aqua Di Gio on myself, not to mention that's how I discovered Marc Jacobs Bang (that's now the bf's scent).

Your seasonal perfume guide is very accurate and I think that most would find sth to their taste there!

As for me, I do change up my perfumes with the seasons, usually it's Britney's Fantasy (day) and Dior Addict (night) for winter, and Gucci Envy Me2 (day) and Dior Pure Poison (night) for summer (and yeeeees, I'm Greek, we all wear perfume by the sea at night like it's nobody's business, hahaha)!

  18. I bought "Midnight in Paris" for my dad's birthday since it was on his wishlist. I sprayed it on my wrist out of curiosity and it is amazing! Not a manly scent at all. Well, maybe a little but I would put it in the unisex section. And then I remembered that you did a post on midnight in paris and just wanted to leave a comment;)
