Miranda Kerr- Treasure Yourself

Miranda Kerr 'Treasure Yourself'
If you are interested in yoga, pilates, Buddhism, positive thinking, meditation, healthy eating, spirituality, affirmations.. or if you are feeling a little lost.. this may be something you would appreciate. This book is not for everyone.. but it is definitely for me! It is something I have been looking forward to for ages as I pre-ordered it in September!!
Half the book is written as a sort of biography. Miranda recalls certain tough periods in her life and then she explains how she dealt with them. At the end of each chapter there are questions you ask yourself to create self- awareness and/or some tips to help you. Then the second half of the book is her favourite affirmations and a passage of explanation for each affirmation.
Personally, I found this book to be a great comfort to me. I'm struggling a bit emotionally right now and some of the passages and affirmations in it were extremely useful to me. By far the best book I have bought myself all year (yes really!) It's exactly my kind of thing.. and just by flicking through it, it has brought me immense comfort. I also that the little hand written note by her makes me love my book even more. You can buy the book here at the official Kora Organics website.

Kora Organics
I didn't know who Miranda Kerr was 2 months ago.. and now I can say I am a huge fan of the woman! As a figure in the public eye she really is quite inspirational. Not to mention I am a huge fan of her skincare line Kora Organics. You can read my posts on the brand here and here for now. Another review coming soon as I have now tried everything by the brand. By far the best skincare range I have ever used!

While we are on the topic of comfort..
Bach Original Flower Remedies
Theses are flower essences distilled in a brandy liquid. You add a few drops to a glass or bottle of water which you sip during the day and they are meant to help you with whatever particular emotion you are feeling.
Star Of Bethlehem- 'Find Joy & Hope'
For people who are grieving or shocked
Honeysuckle- 'Live The Day'
For people living in the past mourning people who died or hopes that failed.

I feel like they have helped me. I can't swear its the flower essence work or if taking the drops has some sort of placebo effect on me.. all I know is they do seem to have some affect with calming me down.
You can read about the other herbal remedies in the series and what they are for here. I got mine from Whole Foods in London but I know they are easier to find online.

Failing all that.. when I am upset there is always Hot Chocolate! :)

How do you cope with grief and general hard times? What helps calm your emotions? Anyone else get a copy of Treasure Yourself?

  5. Seems like your post comes straight from MY heart!! Every word you wrote mentions what I've been thinking the last couple of weeks. I pre-ordered the Treasure Yourself book, I'm totally into Kora Organics, I'm using Bach drops to calm my nerves % by God, there was a lot of yummy hot chocolate involved, too!! This post made me so happy knowing that someone else, by total coincidence, is like-minded :) Bless, Sam xx

  6. I find the Bach Rescue Remedy is a good help when you hear bad news and/or are very shocked.
Now when it comes to coping with emotions, I have learned during the 2 past years that the best thing to do is accepting them and staying in touch with them is the best thing to do. We tend to want them away to have the impression that we feel better and everything's fine again, but it doesn't work like that. Burrying our emotions is guaranteed to backfire at us at some point later.
So yes it's hard, and inspirational books or movies is a nice comforting help; so are friends and whatever works for you. Only time will help, I know that's what everybody says but I swear it's true.
When it comes to grieving for a close loved one, the first 6 months are horrible, the first year is a pain and then it gets better - with ups and down. The shock and the pain go away, it's the void that gets bigger but we learn to deal with it.
    (((hugs)))

  7. This book sounds very interesting...I am very interested in Buddhism and learnt alot about it and it's origins whilst me and Chris were in Hong Kong. I can really relate to it. I am really into alternative remedies/therapies, probably because my mum is a practising Reiki master!

  8. Hi Tali,

Since your post mentions Miranda Kerr, I couldn't help but comment.
I've been a big fan of Miranda ever since she won the Dolly magazine competition here in Australia at age 14 and caused a big stir! But the best thing about her is that she seems to be so grounded despite the fact that she is one of the "beautiful people". You can see the beauty shining from inside as well as out. I'll be getting a copy of her book once it gets restocked in mid-December.

I've had to deal with varying levels of grief throughout my life, some of which are very recent. I thought I'd never get over it, but I think the best way to deal with grief is to not deny yourself in feeling it. Take your time, feel what you have to feel, do what you have to do, but also realise there comes a point when you have to let go and move on. Personally, it was as easy as waking up one day after letting my grief run its course and deciding that today was the first day of the rest of my life.

By the way, loving your blog :)

  9. I didn't get to read the post that you deleted, but I'm guessing you lost someone dear to you. And I'm really sorry for your loss! My beloved Chewy died last week (my beautiful Himalayan cat) and I felt devastated. He was so sweet and I hated to watch him suffer! I made a video about him and that helped me a little bit, but I still cry whenever I think of him. You can watch it here if you want: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI5zrl2P9uc

  10. I loved this post. It's good to have a break and do some introspection about our lives and how we feel. I haven't lost anyone loved yet (cross fingers) but I know how you feel. I'm going though personal/ career changes and you can sometimes feel vulnerable, unsure and lost. I know it's all a state of the mind but we need to go through these stages sometimes to re organise ourselves. And remember in a lot of cases we need to touch really low to be able to get up and get better.
We are all here giving you our cyber support and a big cyber hug. XXX

  11. Ciao Tali! Hot chocolate with marmalade and marshmallows??? I feel fat just looking at the photograph, but if I could I would just jump straight in there! You've created such a bit lemming for me with the Kora range, however I will never be able to try it unless I go to Oz as it's illegal to import cosmetics from outside the EU here in Italy unless you produce endless documents and pay loads of taxes :((( I'm a Rescue Remedy lover, I never take a plane without ingurgitating the whole bottle first, haha! Big bear hug to make you feel better, xxxxx

  15. I've discovered Miranda's skin care brand a bit by random: I'm french and here, in France, Miranda Kerr is not really someone we know off (at least not for her organic involvement). But when I read somewhere that she was launching an organic skin care brand I searched over the net for it and fall upon the Kora Site. I was immediatelly hooked up and I really love the products and what they do to ma skin. Anyway, after hesitating for a while, I finally ordered "Treasure Yourself" and I hope to receive it before Christmas. I'm just finding myself back after a year long depression and I'm still looking for ways to discover who I really am. I hope this book will help me as much as it seemed to helped you!

  16. I will have to check this out. I do Yoga classes every week- and this sounds like an interesting book.

I have used the Bach five flower rescue remedy (I think it's for reassurance). I dont know if its the same for your ones, but a few drops under the tongue help a little stronger thatn dilutd in water.

Main thing into keep your immune system up as emotional stress kills the immune system. Also small steps, small achievable goals rather that huge big steps. (I keep an agenda and tick off things as this helps me to feel that I have done 'somthing' in a day, and takn control of on or two things in my life. Even if it's something small like post a letter or do th washing up!) Very useful on days when I feel I have no focus or a heavy heart- empowermnt through taking control :)

If I need sanctuary then It ranges from thinking/quiet time to film/hot chocolate (Wine!!)/ bubble bath to going somewhere quiet and green for a long walk :)
    xx

  21. Tali, I'm having such a hard time too, just broke up with my BF :( I really want to look into that book... love books like that. I also have been using the Bach flowers for a long time! They definitely work but sometimes I've noticed if you're dealing with someone really difficult they make it almost worse... like they bring up the issue to be dealt with and sometimes it's painful... just my experience anyway.

So glad you posted about this stuff. I hate going through these times :((((

  24. i use those Bach remedies and think they work well. The one I've been using the most lately, is Hornbeam. It's said to give you energy when you are procrastinating, or doubt your ability to face the task ahead!

They may be a placebo effect..but if so, they are VERY effective. hehe. I think I ought to pick up Honeysuckle.

I didn't order Treasure Yourself, but have been meaning to..sounds like something I'd enjoy reading xx
